Uvalde Families Ask Top Police Official to Step Down

Steven McCraw of the Department of Public Safety said he would relinquish his position if his department had any fault during the Uvalde school shooting that left 19 children and two teachers dead last May. But despite the reported delayed police response that led to several investigations and firings, families of victims are asking him to resign from his position months later, reports J. David Goodman for the NY Times.

In one exchange during the hearing, a family member asked McCraw if he was a man of his word, and McCraw replied, “absolutely.” The relative said, “resign,” and McCraw said, “thank you.” It is unclear if McCraw will choose to resign.
