Should A 10-Year-Old Boy Be Charged As An Adult For His Mother’s Murder?

[ad_1]

Activists across the country are calling for a shooting murder case against a 10-year-old boy to be removed into juvenile court, Elliot Hughes reports for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The 10-year-old boy is currently being tried as an adult for first-degree reckless homicide in the shooting death of his mother. Wisconsin law allows children as young as 10 years old to be charged as adults for certain violent crimes.

The child’s family says that he has a history of mental health treatment and behavioral issues and, in November, lawyer Craig Mastantuono commented on the case to the Sentinel, saying it can be a “real disaster” to put children through the adult criminal justice system, where they have less access to treatment during a time their brains are still developing.
