Pakistani Lawyer Shot And Killed In Court

Pakistani lawyer Abdul Latif Afridi was shot and killed in Peshawar High Court last week. He was shot six times at close-range inside the courthouse by another lawyer dressed in a judicial robe, Haroon Janjua reports for the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project. The suspect in the shooting is lawyer Adnan Sami Afridi. According to police, there was a pending case against Abdul Afridi that alleged he was involved in the murder of the suspected assassin’s father.

“[Abdul] Afridi’s killing, in broad daylight, within court premises, has shocked the legal fraternity,” human rights lawyer Osama Malik, told OCCRP.  “It is a monumental loss for human rights activists, lawyers and all supporters of democratic norms.”
