Oregon Holds Only Ballot in the Nation Addressing Gun Violence

Oregon voters Tuesday will consider passage of State Measure 114, a gun-control initiative requiring people to obtain permits and complete safety training to acquire a firearm, the only ballot measure nationwide addressing gun violence and which critics say is the nation’s “most extreme,” reports Melissa Chan for NBC News. The initiative also bans high-capacity magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds and calls for State Police to create and maintain a searchable database of gun ownership. Supporters, including shooting survivors in the state and across the country, say the measure is necessary to reduce gun injuries and deaths.
