NYC Launches ‘Cops, Cameras and Care’ Strategy to Tackle Transit Crime

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams have announced a series of new policies and initiatives to address safety on city subways. The New York Police Department and MTA Police will increase officer presence on New York subway platforms, trains, and commuter railroad stations by around 1,200 overtime shifts per day, placing officers at over 300 stations during peak hours. The state Office of Mental Health will also roll out two new 25-bed units within psychiatric centers to help those experiencing mental health crises. The Governor called the new strategy ‘Cops, Cameras and Care,’ which Mayor Adams said would address both the “perception and reality of safety.”
