Nonprofit Helps Imprisoned and Recently Incarcerated LGBTQ People

Beyond These Walls, an LGBTQ-owned and run nonprofit, provides imprisoned LGBTQ people with penpal services, legal aid, financial support and help finding housing when out of prison Jaclyn Diaz reports for NPR. What started as Biff Chaplow from the National LGBTQ Task Force responding to letters from transgender inmates has transformed into a vital resource for the LGBTQ community in the Pacific Northwest. Trans people and other LGBT people have historically lacked support in prison.
