NJ Officer Indicted For Fatal Pepper Spray Use Of Force

A New Jersey grand jury has charged Trenton Police Department officer Nicholas Piotrowski with one count of official misconduct for his allegedly improper use of force when he pepper sprayed 65-year-old Joseph Ahr during an arrest in the Summer of 2020, the New Jersey Office of The Attorney General announced on Wednesday. Ahr was hospitalized after the encounter and later died.

A medical examiner concluded that the manner of Ahr’s death was homicide, a non-criminal determination that means at least one other person contributed to a person’s death. The AG’s office reports that Piortrowski faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of misconduct.
