New England Strike Force Focuses on Illegal Opioid Prescribers

[ad_1]

A new multi-state, multi-agency strike force called the New England Prescription Opioid Strike Force, will identify, investigate and prosecute individuals involved in health care fraud schemes in the New England region who illegally distribute prescription opioids and other controlled substances, reports Seacoastonline. Based out of Concord, New Hampshire, the strike force creates a partnership between prosecutors, data analysts, and agents of the DEA and FBI, as well as state law enforcement agencies, including the State Medicaid Fraud Control Units. The strike force will target criminal conduct by physicians, pharmacists, and other medical professionals. In Maine alone, according to the state’s U.S. Attorney Darcie McElwee, 23 percent of overdose deaths are the result of pharmaceutical opioids. Officials are asking for the public’s help with reporting potential offenders. They can call 1-800-Call-FBI or visit the website tips.fbi.gov.
