Michigan ‘Second Look’ Bill To Be Reviewed by Senate Committee

Advocates and members of the American Civil Liberties Union to support Michigan’s “second look” bill as the Senate takes another look at the proposed legislation, Charlotte Rene Woods reports for Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Senate Bill 842 would allow inmates who served at least 15 years of their sentence to petition a court to suspend any unserved time they have left. Legislation would “allow the opportunity for them to get a second chance,” State Sen. Jennifer James said. Paulettra James, of the organization Sistas in Prison Reform, views the bill as a way to allow people to “be seen for more than their worst mistake.”
