Kansas to Upgrade its Victim Notification System

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt has announced enhancements to the state’s victim notification system. The move comes as the criminal justice world marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, reports Sarah Motter in KCTV5.

The upgrades include an improved experience streamlining how users can find and register to receive notices to notify them when an offender is released, transferred or escapes from a county jail facility. The changes came after a Kansas domestic violence report showed 22,593 domestic violence incidents were reported to law enforcement, an incident every 23 minutes. In addition, 32 homicides, or 1 in 5, were tied to domestic violence incidents in Kansas.
