Cleveland County Spent Millions on Consultants for Embattled Jail Project

Cuyahoga County in Cleveland has approved spending an additional $744,000 to extend two consultant contracts for its controversial jail project, Cleveland.com reports. Local critics have condemned the project, saying it doesn’t address longstanding issues with leadership, staffing, and systematic problems with how detainees are treated. On Tuesday, Cuyahoga County’s Board of Control voted to extend Project Management Consultants, LLC contract for “owner’s representative services” on the county’s controversial jail project for another year and another $400,000, bringing the firm’s total earnings on the unfinished jail to $2.47 million so far. The board also approved a $343,880 contract for “programming services” for the jail through the end of 2023.
