Chinese CyberCriminals Dupe Workers in Cambodia

Lured by false job promises, over 100,000 Cambodians were held captive by Chinese cybercriminals operating cyber scam mills, often facing torture and other forms of abuse if they refused to comply with their exploiters’ demands, reports David Pierson for the Los Angeles Times. In addition, workers who fail to fill the quotas set by their supposed employers are sometimes sold to others.  In July, the U.S. downgraded Cambodia to the lowest tier on its human trafficking index, placing it alongside Afghanistan, Syria and North Korea.
