‘Boogaloo’ Member Gets Life for Murder of California Cop

Steven Carrillo, a former Air Force sergeant who murdered a sheriff’s sergeant in Northern California has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, CBS reports. In June, Carrillo pleaded guilty to nine charges including murder in connection with the death of Santa Cruz County Sheriff Sgt. Damon Gutzwiller. A week before Gutzwiller’s murder, Carrillo killed a federal agent in Oakland at a Black Lives Matter march, earning him another 41-year prison term.

Carrillo is part of the informal “boogaloo” movement, an internet-centered anti-government ideology that believes there is going to be a new civil war or wants to incite one. “I aligned myself with the anti-government movement and wanted to carry out violent acts against federal law enforcement officers in particular,” Carrillo said in February 2022, when pleading guilty to the murder of federal agent David Underwood.
