Nicholas and Mackenzie Spencer from Washington DC are being held at a maximum security prison in Uganda on charges of aggravated torture and aggravated child trafficking reports Andrea Blanco for The Independent.  According to Ugandan Police, the couple is accused of constantly torturing their 10-year-old foster child for  “stubborn, hyperactive, and mentally unstable” behavior. Nicholas a former congressional staffer and Mackenzie a former healthcare consultant fostered three children since they came to Uganda in 2017. The investigation into the couple’s treatment of their foster child alleges the couple “kept the victim barefoot, and naked throughout the day, would occasionally make him squat in an awkward position, with his head facing the floor and hands spread out widely, he spent his nights on a wooden platform, without a mattress or beddings and was served cold meals from the fridge”.

The couple is also being charged with child trafficking and could face the death penalty if convicted said the state prosecutor during a December 21 court hearing. Attorneys for the couple have reportedly dismissed the accusations.
